The dance music press attitude to Covid? Here’s a clue…

Was it always like this? This is the question posed about the dance music press – known mostly for being craven sycophants afraid to ask anything remotely difficult or controversial. The richest people in dance music with the best lawyers aren’t journalists, after all…

Hence why plague raves were barely mentioned in mainstream outlets like Mixmag. Whilst the likes of Business Teshno on Twitter were exposing DJs who performed at events with few or no Covid controls in place, the dance music press were apparently none the wiser this was happening – such was their reluctance to cover the issue.

And when a DJ contacted Ears To The House last year to reveal his story of why he did plague raves, there were no follow-up articles in the press. The concerns of the DJ that he would be quickly identified elsewhere turned out to be completely unfounded – no journalists ever reached out to us in regards to the story.

Indeed, the way the whole pandemic has been covered in the dance music press in the past two years leaves much to be desired. Ears To The House understands some of this was because of a number of prominent people in the business being firm believers of a number of Covid conspiracies – and we’re told one senior editor of a dance music outlet believes the Covid-19 virus doesn’t even exist.

Journalists within the industry have generally kept their own views carefully concealed – but with this being the internet, someone occasionally slips up and gives a glimpse of their real view. Which is why the tweets liked by the official Mixmag account makes interesting reading…

The comments were made by Ma Sang-hyuk, the Vice President of South Korea’s Vaccine Society on Facebook. Sang-hyuk was forced to delete the comment after a lot of people failed to understand he was simply pointing out how hard it was to avoid the virus in areas of high contagion.

A point which the poorly paid interns at Mixmag probably haven’t grasped either…
