Two areas where Ears To The House agrees with DJ Sneak – yes, really…

Hard as it may be to believe, but we at Ears To The House do have a certain amount of respect for DJ Sneak. As much as he does have a habit of winding people up – and occasionally coming out with complete nonsense – we firmly believe there are few as passionate about the future of house music as he is.

Which is why we occasionally find ourselves in complete agreement with him. Sneak has spoken about the new album from Drake – we published our review on Monday – and he isn’t happy. To prove his point, he compares Drake’s album to one from Nuyorican Soul…

We couldn’t agree more. And as if to prove there’s something in the water this week, there’s a second instance where Sneak has said something we’re in complete agreement on – also on his Instagram page, he talks about the future of live streaming. In short, it’s got to evolve so that DJs get paid…

No disagreements here either. You won’t find much about this in the dance music press, of course – they’re mostly run and staffed by people who are far too comfortable with the current model, failing to realise the future of DJing is going to consist of a hybrid model.

But for the rest of us, the way dance music is consumed is going to change yet again – and the current cost of living troubles are only going to escalate that pace of change. Live streaming has a lot of potential, but there are problems to be fixed – as DJ Sneak points out, getting paid is one of the more substantial ones. DJs feeling the pinch after pandemic restrictions won’t be able to ignore it if it pays.

Agreeing with Sneak twice in the space of a few days – there must be something in the water this week…
