Sébastien Léger complains about “fakers” in music…

One of the more curious moments which piqued our social media interest during last week happened on Thursday – when Decoded Magazine shared a photograph on their Facebook page. And it wasn’t just the fact the link between the quote in the picture and the quote in the text isn’t immediately apparent.

Here are the two quotations as they appeared on Facebook…

So where did these two quotes come from? Well, the first is allegedly by Hunter S Thompson – except it isn’t. The original words were actually written in November 1985 and are about the TV business. The correct quote is…

“The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.

Which is more or less true. For the most part, they are dirty little animals with huge brains and no pulse.”

We can only generously assume a block on accessing Google at Decoded Magazine HQ is behind this slip-up. But where does the second quote by Sébastian Léger come from? Luckily, this one is quoted correctly – perhaps just as well, as it’s from an interview published in April 2020 on their own website.

Since Mr Léger claims “sometimes it’s necessary to say the things how they are, instead of ignoring it”, will he soon be having a conversation with his manager Hagi Craig at Detroit Premiere Artists? As Ears To The House readers will already know, she has been secretly representing Derrick May for several months now.

Yet despite being very proud of the artists she represents, his name does not feature on their website. Léger might want to ask his manager, in the interests of “saying things how they are”, why she doesn’t want the world to know everyone she represents. Because goodness knows we haven’t had any answers when we’ve tried.

Do let us know how you get on, Mr Léger…
