Here’s One They Made Earlier: 29th August 2022

For this week’s edition of Here’s One They Made Earlier, we go back to 1994. Back in those days, the MP3 was something known mostly to computer buffs – the rest of us still lived in the analogue age of physical media. Vinyl sales counted towards the final chart position of a song – hence why many records in this era featured house remixes.

The remixes themselves varied dramatically. More commercial versions focusing on the original song were included, as well as darker or sometimes more abstract dubs – which sometimes bore almost no relation to the original. This particular remix is closer to the second category, and is by UBQ – a production and remix duo consisting of Aaron Smith and Terry Hunter.

Here, they took a fairly standard R ‘n’ B track from the time and turned it into a deeper house dub. Using sparse pieces of the original vocals and not much else, they basically turn it into a completely different record. Works for us…
