Here’s One They Made Earlier: 12th September 2022

Listening back to some older techno records, it’s sometimes hard to find anything in common with what the genre has become. Whilst the early techno records were quite comfortable with taking little influences here and there from various genres and tracks in days gone by, much of what’s around now is inspired by other techno music.

This particular track from 1993 by Chez Damier and Stacey Pullen is a clever example. The long introduction builds things up slowly, with what sounds like a modified xylophone preset weaving its way in and out of the track. The concept of the track is simple enough, but the execution is surprisingly complicated.

Which all means the result is ten very hypnotic and enjoyable minutes…
