It’s with a deep sense of sadness I bring you the news tonight that the Chicago based house DJ Paul Johnson has died. He was aged just 50 years old. Johnson had been in hospital over the past few weeks after catching Covid-19 in early July.
The news was officially announced a little earlier today, and the tributes are already coming in from around the world. Johnson started his DJing career all the way back in 1984 at the mere age of 13 – and started releasing records in 1992.
An incredibly prolific producer who always seemed to busy working on a new track, nothing could stop him. This included an injury from a shooting in 1987 that left him using a wheelchair, having one of his legs amputated in 2003, and a serious car crash which meant he lost his other leg in 2010.
Aside from having a busy release schedule, he always had a full DJing diary. The city of Chicago will be just that little bit quieter tonight, as they mourn the loss of yet another of their own. They’ll rise again soon – Chicago always does.
But I think the last words about the life of Paul Johnson should go to the man who knew him best – Paul Johnson…
My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Paul Johnson’s family and friends at this difficult time.
