Scotland’s nightclubs get to open tomorrow for their first weekend since March 2020 – so why is Glasgow’s Sub Club in no hurry to get the punters through the door?

England’s nightclubs reopened a few weeks ago – and boy did we know about it. When Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave them their date of July 19th, a highly orchestrated PR machine got to work. Everyone was advertising dates and shows. The industry was desperate to get back to work.

Scottish clubs appear to be just as happy to reopen after being closed for nearly 16 months. Like their cousins elsewhere in Britain, some of them have come dangerously close to going under and are relieved to finally be able to get some money in the till.

But not, it appears, the Sub Club in Glasgow. Which is, quite frankly, downright weird. This club has had quite a few problems of late – they were involved in a battle for survival in 2018 when it emerged a hotel was being built across the street from where they’re based. Lesser reported was the fact it was a Sub Club director who sold the land to the developers…

And then the pandemic struck. This brought about a fundraiser by the club whilst director Usman Khushi was pictured travelling in a private jet to a party with his friend Peggy Gou. Not long afterwards, something even more suspect happened.

So with all that in mind, you’d think the Sub Club would be champing at the bit to reopen that front door. Apparently not. Their social media makes no reference at all to reopening and mentions no forthcoming gigs. Their website, in the meantime, is filled with shows which happened in 2015

Sub Club have been contacted for comment. At the time of publishing, no reply has yet been received.

Does your site have a contact page? I’m having a tough time locating it but, I’d like to shoot you an e-mail. I’ve got some recommendations for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great site and I look forward to seeing it develop over time.
