This blog always enjoys going through the archives of what producers, singers and the like have made in the past. You can learn things like where they’ve come from, how their sound has developed, or – and yes, this is the one the blogger in me enjoys the most – things they’d prefer to forget.
Which is why I recently decided to look up the archive of that charming character Wiley. Everyone knows that song where he warbled on about his Rolex watch, but what else has he done?
All the way back in 2002, Ginja and Lee-O did a song called “Del Boy’s Theme”. It was basically a rap, the variety with a silent C in front, over the theme of Only Fools and Horses, probably one of the best comedy programmes in British TV history. They initially did the rounds on white label vinyl – but someone at the BBC was actually convinced to give the song a very limited legal release.
This vinyl version contains two remixes from Wiley. The vocal mix ditches the samples from the theme. The results? Not bad, actually. Not great, but not bad…
