Back in November last year, the Grammy Awards confirmed the nominees for each and every one of their roughly 42,000 categories. They also mentioned the show would take place on January 31st – whilst omitting to say it’ll take about three weeks to get through the entire list.
Included in the list was a nomination for Booker T for his remix of Soul II Soul’s “Back To Life” and Ten City being up for the Best Dance / Electronic category. Well, it now appears they’ll have to wait – alongside more questionable nominees like David Guetta and Tïesto – for a little longer to see whether they’ll be bringing home their trophies.
Billboard are convinced that the Grammy Awards for 2022 are going to be delayed. They cite a source with “direct knowledge” who claims it’s “looking likely” they won’t take place at the end of the month. The reason? Inevitably, it’s the ridiculously infectious Omicron variant of Covid.
Last year, the Grammy Awards announced they were changing the date from January 31st to March 14th. The change was confirmed on January 5th – which falls tomorrow. So it looks like there won’t be too long to wait to find out if Billboard called it right.
But more annoyingly, it also means we have to keep listening to Booker T relentlessly referring to himself as “Grammy nominated” for a little longer…
