In the week that the whole world appeared not to know how to switch off filters on messaging services, it’s the one person who never fails to filter out the bad releases and just leave you with the best!
Solution Feat. Tafuri – Was It Just A Game? (Good Vibrations)
I’ll be honest. I only vaguely remember this one. It originally came out in 1993 to a pretty limited release. These new versions are all rather good. Black Sonix goes high on the organ sound and gets a hit, Sean McCabe does a moody dub and Motion Severn? Sounds suspiciously like Mr McCabe did a vocal mix and slowed it down to 116bpm! Nonetheless, a joyful release.
Madji’k Feat. Léon – Cause You Love Me (Dopewax)
I like this one! One half of legendary duo Masters At Work gets surprisingly jazzy in parts here. This is what you get with decades of experience, people. The Kenny Dope dub is alright for what it is, but for sheer playfulness, (in more ways than one) stick to his main mix.
Federal Hill Feat. Karen Daughtry – We Got It Going On (Unkwn)
Chris Bass continues on his mission to seemingly remix every Victor Simonelli release in existence. I would object profoundly, only he’s doing a pretty exceptional job so far. This one was previously remixed by the likes of TMVS and Angel Moraes back in 1995, and I dare say this one can stand proud too.
George Jackson Feat. Gene Roberson – All That Matters (Plastik People)
Marc Cotterell’s label, DJ Passion, Danny J Lewis… when you see such things on a project, you’re going to take notice. And much of the time, these things turn out to be a disappointment. Not here! All three mixes add something very different to the mix whilst also working as a collective. Those DJ Passion basslines, that signature Danny J Lewis sound, an outstanding vocal – this ticks all the boxes. You really can’t go wrong here.
