The house music world has been filled recently with tributes and warm words for Ron Hardy. In case you’re unfamiliar with the name, Hardy was one of the DJs who championed house music in its early days – but there’s scant evidence online of his existence.
Sure, you can find quite a few of his mixes on the internet. But there aren’t a lot of pictures available, and I’ve never come across any audio or video recording of the man himself speaking. And given he died in 1992 – at the mere age of 33 of an AIDS-related illness – such footage would almost certainly have emerged by now if it existed.
And in a particularly poignant twist, he was buried in an unmarked grave. Something which has only been corrected recently after a fundraiser led by Chicago’s Chosen Few DJs.
Almost brings a tear to the eye…
