And how exactly are you going to force me to sign it, then? The agency of the plague rave DJ who spoke to this blog has been in touch – and they want me to sign a gagging order!

Recently, this blog ran an article by a plague rave DJ who'd got in touch to offer an explanation of why he'd been doing what he'd been doing. This was followed up the next day by an interview with the same DJ where I gave him a series of questions. I have now heard from the agency of the DJ in question. The agency had advised the DJ not to speak to me, but have…

As Boris Johnson has a Bank Holiday wedding to Carrie Symonds, is Sacha Lord keen to see lockdown restrictions gone so he can have a big wedding of his own?

This blog is always happy to bat for the institution of marriage. I'm married for over eight years myself. And as much as I suspect stories in the Bank Holiday newspapers about Boris Johnson marrying Carrie Symonds are a dead cat, I do wish the couple well. It reminded me of something interesting that a source told me about regarding blog favourite Sacha Lord. Back in September 2018, he whisked his then girlfriend Demi McLaughlin…

Will their PR firm actually read the review before plugging it this time? My review of “We Did It For Years”, the Masters At Work follow-up to the underwhelming “Mattel”

A few weeks ago, Masters At Work released their first new single as a duo for a long, long time. The last one I could find was around 2006, so there was plenty of anticipation around it. I reviewed that single called "Mattel" here. As you might have noticed, I wasn't very nice about it. Given the sheer legacy of Masters At Work's productions and remixes dating from the early 1990s, I was bitterly disappointed.…

Have you paid his money yet, Mr Smith? Over a week on, A Guy Called Gerald still hasn’t been paid… but Rham! COULD find his details to send him a legal threat for “harassment”

Late on the evening of Friday May 21st, I published this story after A Guy Called Gerald revealed on his Facebook page that he had never made a single penny from royalties of "Voodoo Ray" and another release on Rham! Records. Since then, Rham! Records published a statement along the lines of "oh, we weren't able to get hold of him, here's where we are if he wants his money". This statement conveniently left out…

Mixcloud claims that Amazon owned Twitch doesn’t care about artists – but just how much better is their OWN record?

Back on Friday, Twitch sent out their occasional remiders to DJs that they basically don't want them on their platform. Something, possibly an American sense of politeness, prevents them from saying it out aloud, so emails stating you shouldn't play music on Twitch must suffice. Mixcloud immediately jumped in, with a long series of self-congratulatory tweets. Click below to see it in full... https://twitter.com/mixcloud/status/1398298906144956419?s=19 Mixcloud's tweets, as ever, leave out the subject of why DJs…

Does anyone at Mixmag EVER read over what they publish? Headline about nine ravers looking forward to going out again leaves followers scratching their heads

Oh, how I do enjoy mocking Mixmag, the dance music magazine that covers a 24/7 culture - but only during office hours. Yet I also admit to being baffled how their operation continues to run without editors. Proofreading material before it's published is an important job. It ensures that everything published reads correctly and can't be misinterpreted. It can also avoid potential legal issues by ensuring that nothing is left in for the ambulance chasers…

Is he just bored of staying in the house so much? The possible reason why Sacha Lord is so desperate for lockdown to be over

Anyone who follows Sacha Lord on Twitter will no doubt be aware by now of the format the account roughly follows. You could probably train a dog on how to run it, and they’d understand the process within minutes. Each day, Sacha comes down from his high horse to tell us his daily message. It usually references something topical in the news, though never in a controversial way. It then mentions something along the lines…

Couldn’t you have recorded some new mixes during lockdown? Friends joking at Derrick May’s expense about his reliance on old mixes at Mixcloud’s premium Select service

Word reaches me from Detroit that Derrick May's friends have been making fun of him following his 58th birthday, and that May isn't enjoying it. Jokes about him soon being entitled for a seniors discount are said to be starting to wear thin on the surprisingly thin-skinned DJ. One other thing that they've also been remarking upon is the lack of new content on his Mixcloud Select platform. A recent social media post from the…

Over 600 musicians sign letter refusing to perform in Israel over Palestinian conflict – but why has notorious human rights loving DJ Danny Rampling not signed it?

The Israeli Palestine conflict is one that flares up sporadically, and inevitably brings up questions when it does. And some of those questions involve the human rights of the people who are caught up in the middle of this dreadful warfare. It's of no surprise, therefore, to find musicians making pledges not to perform in Israel. Indeed, over 600 have done so in recent days and that total is rising. But the name of Danny…

The Six On Saturday (That Aren’t From Me!) – 29th May 2021

On the week a man refused to take his mask off for, ahem, relations with his wife - even though they're both fully vaccinated against the coronavirus - I seperate the tunes that'll have you taking the mask off with joy from the ones that you just wish the mask covered your whole face... Harley&Muscle Feat. Robert Owens - Won't Go Back (Soulstar)It always baffles me when releases feature lots of mixes that sound the same.…
