Insert your own joke here: Peggy Gou’s new single was inspired at an airport toilet – but why are the press who hold her in reverence staying quiet?

One thing I’ve learnt about PR people over the past few months is most of them are absolutely terrible at their jobs. They promote things they know are rubbish just because they’re getting paid to do it. They send out emails indiscriminately hoping someone out there notices. And in one case, they even included a bad review in one of their coverage lists!

Hence why Peggy Gou’s last single got some ridiculously rave reviews in the dance music press – although not from me, of course. Stoney Roads described it as being a “beautiful piece of electronica”, for example. So you’d think the reviews for her new single, “I Go”, would be just as colourful, right?

Apparently not. A Google search shows surprisingly little has been written about it. This is odd for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s actually half decent. Secondly, the dance music press normally go to painful lengths to venerate Miss Gou – even newspapers like The Michigan Daily say she “deserves every praise”, language that wouldn’t look out of place in the Rodong Sinmun.

And finally, it shows you how much they rely on press releases to tell them what’s going on.
