Nervous Records recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Whilst a label surviving so long is certainly something to celebrate in this climate, what remains something of a mystery is how they’re still here. It’s certainly not the quality of their advertising – firmly stuck in the 1970s – which does it.
And let’s face it, it’s not the quality of their current offerings which have much to do with it either. Bar the odd tune from time to time, most of their output these days leaves me cold. Perhaps a heavy amount of trading on the fact they signed early releases by the likes of Roger Sanchez, Armand Van Helden, Kim English and so on which helps them in this day and age.
Another person who also had a release or two on Nervous in the early days was Todd Terry. For instance, they were the label who put out “I Want To Know” under his Latin Kings alias in 1992 – so you’d think Nervous would know how to spell his name by now.
Er, apparently not. Because back on Sunday, they put this advert for LGNDS at New York on December 18th – and it’s still up there at the time of publishing…
Someone over at Nervous needs to learn how to use the spellcheker – or maybe I should say spelchecker…
