For this week’s Here’s One They Made Earlier, we take a closer look at an old Josh Wink record. And no, we’re not talking about “Higher State Of Consciousness”, great a record as that is. This particular song originally came out in 1995 and has been remixed countless times since by a hell of a lot of different artists.
Most of those remixes are, it has to be said, crap. The crisp and minimalist Live Raw mix which Wink himself did still works perfectly well – but there is one remix which we’ve always been a bit fond of. And that’s the Timo Maas remix which came out in 2000.
At the time, Maas was on something of a career high – try as you might back then, but for some two years, there was simply no getting away from his now notorious remix of “Dooms Night” by Azzido Da Bass. Naturally enough, this meant plenty of remix work being sent his way.
The result is he takes quite a minimalist house track which borrows a little from techno, and turns it into something a tad more compact and punchy…
