This week, we thought we’d have something for this column which didn’t take itself entirely seriously. Because occasionally in the world of dance music, a record comes along which is amusing and sometimes even funny. This is very much one of them.
95 North are an American duo consisting of Doug Smith and Richard Payton. The two men have produced music for over 30 years now, and releases from 95 North do still appear to this day. This particular song came out in 1999 and was called “The Request”.
Yes, they were mocking the DJ culture from that era. Yes, it still seems strangely relevant today. And yes, it’s still a lot of fun to listen to. The Robbie Rivera remix from the same release was also interesting…
