Here’s One They Made Earlier: 11th July 2022

Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if a house record was to break down to the sounds of an ice cream van? Once you’ve awarded Ears To The House the prize for probably the strangest question you’ve been asked by anyone on this Monday, let us explain what we’re talking about.

We criticised Basement Jaxx last week for commissioning sub-par remixes of some of their best releases. The reason we did this was because we don’t think it does their legacy any justice – we have no issue against remixes, but we do think they should bring something new or different to the table.

Just like Basement Jaxx did with this release from their Camberwell EP back in 2000. Released under the Banana Krew alias – back in the day, it wasn’t unusual for artists to be contractually barred from putting out new music under a certain name for a period of time around a release – it featured four tracks.

The lead track was “I Live In Camberwell” – and yes, it really does feature the sounds of an ice cream van in the breakdown…
