For those musicians out there who slog away for long hours for little to no financial reward, the dream of being able to make a decent income from their music is further away than ever. Amidst a backdrop where 60,000 new songs are uploaded to Spotify every day and clubs are more risk averse than ever before, most will never make it to the top.
At the other end of the scale are people who are very comfortable indeed – and don’t seem to mind telling us so. One such person is Richard West – the 58-year old DJ and producer who once fronted The Shamen. Recently, he took to Facebook to show us that he’s done very nicely indeed – and is now selling one of his houses!
The place in question is in Los Angeles – and is described online as a “welcoming residence comprising 3 well-appointed bedrooms and 4 modern bathrooms, and features decks upon decks that offer views of the Echo Park hills and iconic landmarks, from the Downtown LA skyline all the way to the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory… The interiors are flooded with natural light that streams through an abundance of floor to ceiling windows, sliding doors, and skylights, creating a calm and inviting ambiance.”.
The asking price? A mere $1,895,000 – that’s a little over £1.5million. Perhaps there’s a dance music aficionado out there who’d like to buy the house – after all, this is where Mr C angrily bashed out rants on his keyboard towards DJ Pierre, Michael James and numerous others over the years. Some records of his were presumably made there, too.
Ears To The House has been told the reason West is selling his Los Angeles house is he’s moving back to London. We’re not sure whether he’s planning on using the proceeds to buy another house in the city – but according to Foxtons, a three bedroom house in Central London could end up costing almost £7.5million.
Perhaps another royalty check or two for “Move Any Mountain” might help plug the shortfall…
