I recently wrote a spate of posts following the death of a 21 year old at The Cause in Tottenham – since named as Bill Hodgson. I won’t be commenting any further on that case, partly because it’s in the hands of the police and partly because there’s a family out there in mourning.

But one thing that was discussed in the days afterwards was drug testing facilities in clubs. Infact, a powerful House of Commons committee actually called for such facilities to be introduced only recently – and as usual were ignored. As I explained in a post last week, such facilities could reduce the amount of drugs being consumed.

And it’s not the first time that this idea has been discussed. It was mentioned in the days and weeks following the death of Leah Betts in November 1995. Clubbers at the time were acutely aware of it, as this cutout from a January 1996 issue of Muzik Magazine shows…

And yet 25 years later, we’re still here…
