Here’s One They Made Earlier: 26th September 2022

For this week’s edition of Here’s One They Made Earlier, it’s time to finally feature some tech-house in this column. Thankfully for the sake of everyone’s ears, we’re not talking about the Instagram friendly disposable tech-house which dominates the charts so much these days.

No, we’re referring to what used to be called tech-house around two decades ago – when it used to be a curious genre which was more than happy to take influences from anywhere and everywhere. And furthermore, we’re going back to a time when Yousef – occasionally criticised by this site – actually made good music.

This one was done by the then rising star Yousef and Steve Mac – one half of Rhythm Masters, a prolific duo in the 1990s on the remix circuit. It combines tribal influences, the progressive house sound of the time and takes in a Latin sample of some kind. It did pretty well back in 2001 – its year of release.

Can we have more of this kind of stuff, please?
