Here’s Three They Made Earlier: 13th February 2023

Monday can be a bit of a depressing bump back to reality sometimes. So to help you either unwind at the end or to just get through it – depending on your time of day – we have three tracks here from dance music history. First up is a Maurice Joshua mix from 1992 of Ce Ce Peniston’s “Keep On Walkin”. A one-hit wonder, she most certainly is not…

Staying with the same year, here’s “Make It On My Own” by Alison Limerick. Tony Humphries provided several different versions of this one. The T-Scat mix focuses on “improvised melodies and rhythms using the voice as an instrument rather than a speaking medium”…

And we finish off this evening’s reminiscing by going back to 1996 for an underrated track from an even more underrated duo. 95 North consisted of Doug Smith and Richard Payton and this is “Soon To Be Free”. Chord stabs are sampled from a Masters At Work dub of Saint Etienne’s “Nothing Can Stop Us”, vocals are from Richard Payton himself…

Coming up tomorrow night – a special Valentine’s Day edition of this column with some more romantic moments from history. More of the usual stuff next Monday.
