As Rebekah Teasdale leads the charge against Sonus for booking Derrick May, his name has been mysteriously wiped from their website – so why won’t they confirm if he’s still appearing?

What’s the one thing that we can say for certain after spending two years reporting on the 60-year-old occasional DJ Derrick May? If we had to choose, it would be that nothing is ever simple or straightforward with him – such is the underhand way that he has operated in the past three years.

Since all those allegations of sexual abuse appeared in 2020 against him, he has refused to speak out about it. The normally very vocal May has given no interviews on the subject – no loud declarations of his innocence, no admission of any guilt. For the first time in his long life, Derrick May has had nothing to say.

But one person who has certainly spoken up about him over the past few years is Rebekah Teasdale – the techno DJ and leader of the #ForTheMusic movement. Late last week, she was taking no prisoners and fired off the following Instagram story – and she was aiming the cannon straight at the organisers of Sonus Festival…

Teasdale claims that by booking Derrick May, Time Warp have gone back on a promise from three years ago to show “zero tolerance… around sexual assault and harassment”. Ears To The House has been in touch with Time Warp for comment on this one – they haven’t responded at the time of publication.

The latest claim swirling around online is that Derrick May is no longer appearing at Sonus Festival next month. Anyone taking a look at the festival lineup on the website will notice that May’s name is conspicuous in its absence – but social media material remains unchanged, with his name still appearing.

Either way, no announcement has been made on what’s happening – although this isn’t something that will come as a surprise to regular readers. Back in 2021, we reported on the confusion that reigned for several weeks after his name appeared on a lineup for a Club Shelter party – in the end, he did not play at the event.

Expect a similar pattern to occur once more – with much the same ending…
