Here’s Three They Made Earlier: 10th July 2023

As another Monday comes to an end, it’s time for another edition of Here’s Three They Made Earlier. Three tunes from yesteryear, all chosen by the team almost totally at random. From big tunes to obscure ones, everything has its place here. So, let’s get to this week’s choices…

First up this evening, it’s a track from a massively underrated producer in the 1990s who never got his time to shine properly. Roger Mackenzie, from Southampton, was responsible for a lot of underground gems such as “Renegade Master” – but also put out a lot of sample-heavy tracks such as this one…

Next up, it’s an even more obscure one from 1993 – often played by Masters At Work, including for the mix they did for Mixmag that year. M-Beat was a UK jungle artist called Marlon Hart – but in that era, it wasn’t unusual for producers to dabble in other genres too…

And finally, here’s an unashamedly commercial one from 1999 – and Ears To The House is genuinely baffled at how this never gets played anymore. “That Sound” by Michael Moog turned out to be his best-known track – having appeared on Strictly Rhythm and Pete Tong’s FFRR label – although he had a few others which are worth checking…

More selections next week…
