As another Monday inevitably continues its endless trudge into another Tuesday, Defected’s Wez Saunders finds himself with yet another busy week. Saunders, of course, wouldn’t have it any other way – many sources within the dance music world can vouch for how hard he works.

But this particular week is one that’s a little closer to his heart than normal. Whilst we stand by our descriptions of Saunders as being more commercially minded than his predecessor, he also has quite a philanthropic side – and this coming Thursday, Defected is running a fundraiser for Shelter.

So what is Shelter? Well, it’s a registered charity in the UK that campaigns for more rights for tenants – they operate all across Britain, with links to the Housing Rights Service in Northern Ireland. They were founded back in 1966 – and are probably most well known in the UK for their work with the homeless.

Neon 194 on London’s Piccadilly Street will be hosting a charity dinner on November 16th, followed by DJ sets from the likes of Arielle, Fat Tony, Defected’s own Melvo Baptiste, and Rudimental. A number of events took place over the weekend – and there’s also an auction.

So what’s in it? At the time of publication, Louie Vega’s isolator is the most expensive item on the list – with Defected’s own Luke Solomon having put in a bid of £1100 for the item. Elsewhere, someone somewhere is willing to pay £305 for an original painting by David Morales, and you can buy one of the aforementioned Louie Vega’s hats – bidding currently stands at £450.

Weirdly, one of the most popular items in the auction at the moment has bidding at £500. The item? Er, a pair of Sam Divine’s trainers. Directly donating is also an option…
