Carl Cox wrote a book, Judge Jules did happy birthday videos for money – but what did Yousef do to make extra dough during the pandemic?

We all know that a pandemic hit the world last year. We also know there are DJs, artists, producers and such who lost a huge amount of work because of it. How they’ve responded has invariably, well, varied.

For example, I know a few personally who got jobs as delivery drivers and supermarkets. If you’re Sven Väth, Peggy Sue or several of the other big name DJs, you pretended the pandemic didn’t exist and went to countries that had looser restrictions than most of Europe.

And if your name is Yousef, you use this time to start a new company. Lola Ideas Investments Ltd was set up by Mr Yousef Zaher and Mr Richard McGinnis in November 2020 – and my enquiries cannot establish what this company actually does. It has no address, web presence or even a telephone number.

Companies House lists this company under the Standard Industrial Classification code of 68209. They explain it as “Other letting and operating of own or leased real estate” and it includes a pretty sizeable list of things that they might do.

There’s no suggestion from me that anything illegal or improper is happening here. Yousef is a private individual and obviously entitled to invest his own money in whatever way he wants, and the company was registered properly with the authorities.

Nonetheless, it’s intriguing to see all the different methods that DJs are resorting to in order to make money in these unusual times we live in…
