Here’s Three They Made Earlier: old tunes and older tunes every Monday | November 20, 2023

As we get ready to say farewell to another Monday, it’s time for our usual look back at the increasingly extensive archives of the dance music world. Each week, members of the team pull out three choices from dance music history, ranging from well-known to those which have been forgotten over the years.

This evening, we’re in a techno kind of mood – and by that, we don’t mean the really hard, fast McDonald’s style fare being pushed by people like DJ Rebekah or Patrick Mason. No, we’re referring to what it was in the past – happily taking influences from everywhere else along with using its own ideas. This is a good example – it’s a Chez Damier and Ron Trent remix that’s a bit house and a bit techno…

Next up, it’s a track originally released in 1993. Just like many from dance music’s early days, a few producers have attempted to remix it – which is where Carl Cox came in. Back in 1996, this version of “Vernon’s Wonderland” emerged – full of influences from Detroit techno’s early days, but with a faster pace overall. See what you think…

Finally, for today, it’s a track that’s now 30 years old. Released in 1993 by techno veteran Sven Väth and remixed numerous times since, it’s “An Accident In Paradise” from an album of the same name. There’s a lot of mixes on this, and most are quite good – but the Wild Pitch version by DJ Pierre slows the tempo down and goes in its own enjoyable durection…

More selections next Monday…
